An Alternative To The
Son-Rise* Program
For families who are just beginning a home program and for
families who want to energize or enhance an existing program, here are
some reasons to consider Growing Minds Autism Programs.
-
The Growing Minds Autism Programs are directed
and taught by Steven Wertz, with 15 years' experience teaching the
Son-Rise program. Read about Steven's background.
-
Growing Minds balances social development with
skill development. We train parents to create deep connection
and high-quality social interaction with their children. We also teach
them to provide clear, step-by-step instruction, helping the children
to acquire necessary skills and to progress toward appropriate goals.
-
Each program is driven by a thorough evaluation
of the child. All Growing Minds programs begin with a thorough
assessment of the child. This specific information about your child
is the basis for all of our recommendations.
-
We provide written curriculum designs/ individual
education plans (IEPs). Even with improved relational skills,
most children with autism require step-by-step instruction that identifies
precise goals and uses clear methods to reach them. We provide a written,
individualized IEP and we help you revise and update it through ongoing
support. These written plans have been helpful to parents seeking
funding from education authorities or other sources.
-
Follow-up and support are built into the program.
All Growing Minds Comprehensive Programs include six months of distance
support by telephone and Internet via our forum. No matter how effective
in-person training is, it cannot prepare you for every contingency
that will happen after you go home. When you become a Growing Minds
client, we commit to be there for you consistently for as long as
you choose to continue.
-
You work directly with our most experienced trainers.
All services are provided directly by our highly experienced three-member
team. No portion of your training (or your child's) is delivered by
teachers-in-training or by recently graduated teachers.
-
We offer access to a broad array of methods.
Because we are not bound by a particular philosophical perspective,
we are free to draw from the best methods available to help your child.
Each member of our team is enrolled in continuing graduate-level education,
to broaden our skills and to keep them current.
-
The Growing Minds program structure is flexible.
Some children don't require a full-time home program and some families
can't provide one. We consider the needs of the child and the resources
of the family and community in order to recommend a program structure
that will work.
-
Our program is less expensive. The Growing
Minds five-day intensive program is less expensive than the Son-Rise
five-day intensive program. Even with the added fees for our six-months
of continuing support, our Comprehensive Program is less expensive
than the Son-Rise five-day intensive without follow-up. (These calculations
have been adjusted for the cost of lodging and meals in Florida, which
are not included in our fee and which are included in the fees for
the Son-Rise program.)
