Autism Programs
Parent-Directed Treatment for Children
with Autism-Sprectrum Disorders

We are specialists in training parents whose children have Autism, Pervasive Developmental Delay, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) and Asperger’s Syndrome. We believe that many children can recover from autism spectrum disorders. Even children with more severe forms of autism have the capacity to improve intimacy and communication and to learn skills that will enrich their quality of life. The Growing Minds program teaches parents to bring their children as far on the road to recovery from autism as possible.

We also provide programs for children with other neurological, developmental and neuro-muscular difficulties.

Our three-person team has 44 years of collective experience in home education for children with autism spectrum disorders. We work with a limited number of families, providing them with the inspiration, tools and continuing support needed for a successful home program. Read the profiles of children’s progress after a Growing Minds program.

Experience has convinced us that children on the autism spectrum develop most successfully and rapidly when their special social, educational and physiological needs are met and balanced within an individualized, comprehensive program. Rather than trying to fit the child to the program, we tailor the program to the child’s unique strengths, weaknesses, interests and abilities. Growing Minds is an effective alternative to the Son Rise Program* and can be used effectively to enhance play-based, biomedical, sensory, auditory and school programs. Our Autism Program integrates:

  • Play-based, relationship-oriented methods. Every child with autism, no matter how severe, can be helped to experience intimacy, comfort, warmth and love. Every child can learn to enjoy affection and to run toward a parent to be tickled, hugged or held. Every child can learn to look into another person’s eyes and laugh with genuine, shared delight. For this portion of our program, we draw upon extensive experience teaching the Son Rise Program*.

  • Educational methods. Every child with autism has the right to be taught. Every child deserves education that includes intellectual stimulation, help to develop communication and skills to take care of him or herself. For this portion of our program, we rely primarily upon Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA, Lovaas).

  • Physiological and sensory strategies. Every child with autism must be helped to be healthy, strong and comfortable in his or her body, and to see, hear and touch in ways that are not confusing.

We believe that parents are the most powerful resource in a child’s program of recovery. Your child may grow and flourish with the help of many wonderful teachers and professionals. But you, the parent, have love and a commitment to this child that no one else can equal. Growing Minds helps parents seize the power of that love and commitment to become inspired, effective teachers, program directors and advocates for their children.

Please take some time to visit with us at this site. We would be delighted to talk with you by phone (561-748-9697) about ways we might help your child to achieve his or her full potential.
